Connecting Threads: Karen Weinhaus & Sarah Kahn

(Newton, MA) The New Art Center (NAC) is pleased to announce the opening of
Connecting Threads, on view in the NAC’s Holzwasser Gallery February 27 – March 15, 2015. This exhibition showcases the work of two NAC faculty members, Sarah Kahn and Karen Weinhaus. Through their intricate mixed media compositions, these artists explore moments of reaction and repair in their personal lives. In their words: “We drop, gather, and re-connect threads whenever there is loss or disruption in our lives. This show narrates our passages of loss and disruption, our threads of connection.”

Sarah Kahn graduated from Bennington College with a degree in art and early childhood development. She has since been committed to mixed media collage and abstract compositions that encourage viewers to draw upon internal imagery, personal memories, sensory responses and unconscious processes. Using color, texture, and form, Sarah focuses on placement to evoke meaning. Sarah is currently represented by Soprafina Gallery in Boston’s historic S.O.W.A district.

Karen Weinhaus earned a BFA from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston and Tufts University before working for several years as a children’s book designer/illustrator in New York City. Her recent work consists of sewn fabric collages and stitched drawings that explore explores stories and line.

The nearest T stop to the New Art Center is Newton Highlands on the Green Line (D/Riverside), then take the #59 North bus on    Walnut Street, exit at CVS.  Call the MBTA at (617) 722-3200 for schedules + fare information.  The NAC is also accessible from the Mass. Pike, Route 128, or the Newtonville stop on the commuter rail (Framingham line).
